Hazardous Materials Surveys

When a structure is scheduled to be demolished it is required by the state that the structure must be inspected for the presence of hazardous substances. Hazardous substances found in buildings often include asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, mercury-containing items, dry cell batteries, antifreeze, old electrical equipment, PCBs (found in light ballasts, small capacitors in old appliances, and transformer oils), refrigerants, some fire extinguishers, as well as others. If not identified and removed prior to demolition, hazardous materials could be dispersed into the air, ground, or ground water. TPT is staffed with personnel experienced in conducting hazardous materials surveys in conjunction with building demolitions.
